An infant was seriously injured in a town house fire in Baltimore County on Wednesday afternoon.

Baltimore County Fire Department Battalion Chief Lonnie Ledford said at the scene that the infant was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in serious but not critical condition. A toddler and an adult were also injured in the fire and taken to the same hospital.

“Everybody was already outside and across the street by the time we got here,” Ledford said. “Flames were blowing out of the second-story window.”

The fire appeared to start in a second-floor bedroom in the Fontana Village Townhomes community in the unit block of Serpens Court of Rosedale, not far from Golden Ring Park, around 4:30 p.m. Ledford said around 65 firefighters responded to the one-alarm fire, which was under control in about 10 minutes.

Wednesday evening firefighters threw a mattress, dresser and other burnt bedroom contents onto the front yard while investigating the cause.

“We’re concentrating our investigation on this front bedroom here,” Ledford said.
